The secondary treatment of sewage includes the treatment of sewage by the aerobic bacteria in the presence of enough oxygen and controlled temperature. The aerobic bacteria degrade the organic products present in the water like fats, carbohydrates, proteins, etc. to form the biomass which can be filtered using filters and Reverse Osmosis techniques.

The advantage of this process is that it can be performed on large scales with minimum expense and that too within the minimum time possible. No other man-made process is capable of doing this process so efficiently.
