Sulphuric acid is a dehydrating agent, it dehydrates alchol and gives out ethene. If hydrogen is added to ethene the it will become C2H6 due to breaking of the bonds in the presence of nickel catalyst.

Answer: When ethanol C2H5OH is heated at 443 K or at 170° C in the presence of sulphuric acid then it gives ehene C2H2.

Sulphuric acid acts as a dehydrating agent .

C2H5OH -> C2H2 + H2O ( In the presence of H2SO4)
