Ethanol is oxidised by acidified potassium dichromate to give acetaldehyde, which is further oxidised by same oxidising agent to formethanoic acid or acetic acid. Ayush Sharma, Studied organic chemistry in XII grade. Add acidified KMnO4 toethanol, and you have Ethanoic acid.
