Two membranes contain and protect the inner parts of the chloroplast. They are appropriately named the outer and inner membranes. The inner membrane surrounds the stroma and the grana(stacks of thylakoids). One thylakoid stack is called a granum

Chloroplast is considered to have origin from the Greek words " khloros and plast " which means forming green .

Chloroplast are the cell organelles which are helpful in carrying out photosynthesis. They are rich with chlorophyll which gives leafs their green colour .

Chloroplast can be studied easily if you remember the structure of mitochondria.

Chloroplast are oval shaped & has two membranes ( Mitochondria too has two membranes) .

The inner membrane is beneath the outer one. and The space in the inner membrane has thylakoids with stroma .

Thylakoids are disc like sacs in the stroma , Most of the green plants have their thylakoids arranged on top of each other. Each sac or a bundle of thylakoids is a granum.

Both Granum & Stroma help in photosynthesis which is the process which converts light energy to starch by using other substances .

There is one more part, that is lamella which connects Thylakoid of one grana to other

The basic structures to remember in a chloroplast is Stroma ,Grana, Thylakoids , Lamella.
