HCl is to kill the harmful bacterias entered body through oesophagus and providing an acidic medium to pepsinogene which converted into pepsin and works for protein digesting only in an proper acidic medium. Mucous protects the walls of stomach from HCl.

Liver secrets bile juice which neutralises the acidic character of food entering to small intestine from stomach to tripsin to work on food which digests fats
