Name the coordinates of equilateral triangle ABC with base AB = 2a along the x-axis and height 3a−−√ .

A. A(0,0),B(0,2a),C(3a−−√,a)
B. A(2a,0),B(0,0),C(a,3a−−√)
C. A(2a,0),B(0,0),C(3a−−√,a)
D. A(0,0),B(2a,0),C(a,3a−−√)

We have to name the coordinates of equilateral triangle ABC with base AB = 2a along the X - axis and height √3a.

solution : Base of equilateral triangle lies along the X - axis.

so, if we assume point A is origin then B must be (2a , 0)

given height of triangle is √3a

so, y - coordinate of C is √3a

and x - coordinate must be a [ because altitude of equilateral triangle is also median of it. means, it divides base into two equal parts ]

so, point C (a, √3a)

Therefore the coordinates A (0, 0) , B(2a , 0) and C(a, √3a)
