Ibn Battuta was a Muslim traveller and explorer from morocco. He is known for his extensive travels, accounts of which were published in the book Rihla. Battuta is considered one of the greatest travelers of all time. He came to India during the regime of Muhammad bin Tughlaq.

Ibn Battuta was a traveler, a botanist, a man of law and a geographer who traveled almost every part of the medieval world. Around 1330, after his third pilgrimage to Mecca, he traveled to India to seek employment with sultanate of Delhi. According to the records from his biography, he started his exploration at the age of 20. From the starting point it has been estimated that Ibn Battuta has covered almost 75,000 miles within the span of 29 years.
