Answer:
Name the device which you will use to measure the perimeter of your playground. Describe in steps how you will use it.
You can use a meter ruler or a stick of known length to measure the perimeter of your playground.
Explanation:
Step 1: Find a measuring instrument you can use
In this step, you will need to decide on an instrument you can use. The instrument needs to be such that it gives accurate results and is easy to use.
You can use a metre ruler or use a long straight rod/stick
In this example we use a rod/stick
- Pick a long rod or straight stick
- Find the length of the stick by using a smaller ruler. Let say you measure and find that the stick is 2 metres long.
- Use the length of the rod or stick to measure the dimensions of the playground by calculating how many times it divides the dimensions
Measure the length of the breath and length of the playground:
To measure the perimeter of you playground, you will need to find the length and the breadth of the playground.
Step 2: Use the rod to measure the dimensions of the playground:
Take the stick and count the number of times that the stick fits into the length of the playground. Multiple these number of times by the length of the stick and the product will be the length of your playground. Let say the stick fits into length 100 times, then the length is 2m × 100 = 200m
Do the same step to calculate the measure of the breadth of the playground. Let say the stick fits into the breadth 50 times, the breath is 2m × 50 = 100m
Step 3: Use the formula of perimeter to find the perimeter of the playground:
Perimeter = 2 ( length + breadth)
Perimeter of playground, in our example is:
= 2 ( 200 m + 100 m) = 2 × 300m
= 600m
