The different blocks of the periodic table are s, p, d and f blocks.

  • s-block of the periodic table has its valance electron in s-subshell. Like- Na. The general electronic configuration is ns^{(1-2)}.
  • p-block of the periodic table has its valance electron in p-subshell. Like-P.
  • The general electronic configuration is ns^{(1-2)}np^{(1-6)}.
  • d-block of the periodic table has its valance electron in d-subshell. Like-Cu.
  • The general electronic configuration is ns^{(1-2)}(n-1)d^{(1-10)}.
  • f-block of the periodic table has its valance electron in f-subshell. Like-U.
  • The general electronic configuration is (n-2)f^{1-14}(n-1)p^{1-6}ns^{(1-2)}
