Following are the different breeds of sheep used to obtain wool,

-Merino,

-Corriedale

The above mentioned are those breeds of sheep which have the best fiber for wool present.

Breeds are of Indian Origin

In India, there are around 40 different breeds of sheep. Out of those the breeds for getting wool are

-Balangir sheep

-Bonpala sheep

-Madras Red

-Magra

-Deccani

- Gaddi

- Karhah

Even though there are more breeds for getting wool but these are the best ones because they aren't endangered and are available in the different regions of India. For instance, "Karhah" belongs to the Northern Region of India.

How are they reared?

All these sheep are reared in different regions of the country in different ways. For bringing up sheep, the housing doesn't matter but the land for grazing does.

They are used to feeding on grass from one corner of the grazing field to another, they rest in the night time and require housing assistance during seasonal changes. In winters they need housing. In India all types of housing are available, open sheep housing, semi open and bound sheep.
