The irrigation method mostly adopted in India is probably flood irrigation.It may not necessarily be the best because it uses excessive water and can end up wasting a lot of water which is a resource that is in short supply today. It may be is such wide use because the initial cost is minimal.
other MATHODS like hose irrigation,large sprinkles and drip are more capital intensive but make better use of the available water.
Among these drip irrigation is the most efficient in that it uses the least amount of water, power required for pumping the water is minimal and the water is directly delivered to the root zone with minimum wastage in the form of evaporation. Weed problem is also minimised and labour required to operate it is also the least.
