Physical features of India are:

The Himalayas: It is chain of high mountain ranges which run from west, north and northeastern parts of the country. The Himalayans are the young fold mountains which are divided into three ranges- the Himadri, Himachal and the Shiwaliks.

The Northern Indian Plains: They are a vast stretch of flat alluvial plains covering the states of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal. These are fertile plains and the main occupation of people in these plains is agriculture.

The Great Indian Desert: The vast plains of sandy stretch covering mainly the states of Rajasthan and Gujarat form the Thar Desert. The regions receive less than 50cm of rainfall annually.

The Peninsular Plateau: It is the oldest landmass of India. It is further divided into Central Highlands and the Deccan Plateau. On the western margins of the Deccan Plateau lies the Western Ghats and on the Eastern margin lies the Eastern Ghats.

The Coastal Plains: Between the Western Ghats and the Arabian Ocean lies the Western coastal plains and between the Eastern Ghats and the Bay of Bengal lies the Eastern coastal plains.

Islands: India has two main groups if islands- the Lakshadweep in the Arabian Sea and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in the Bay of Bengal.
