There are certain ways to identify the plastic :

Floating or Sinking :

One of the simplest manner by which we can identify plastic is by whether they float or they sink. But there are certain exceptions such as we have polyolefins which generally float in water.

Burn :

The polyolefins of the exceptions, ignite quite a bit readily - and you better beware if you are one of those people testing this kind of plastic because molten plastic has the property of dripping and also leave an ugly burn if you make any kind of contact with the same.

Smell :

You can do that by smelling the smoke of the plastics as well as t has a very wafty smell which is produced on burning.
