Answer and explanation:

A gland is an organ which produces and releases substances that perform a specific function in the body.

Digestive enzymes are a group of enzymes that break down polymeric macro-molecules into their smaller building blocks, in order to facilitate their absorption by the body.

Exocrine glands are glands that secrete substances onto an epithelial surface by way of a duct. Examples of exocrine glands include sweat, salivary, mammary, ceruminous, lacrimal, sebaceous, and mucous.

Digestive gland

In the human digestive system, the main sites of digestion are the oral cavity, the stomach, and the small intestine. Digestive enzymes are secreted by different exocrine glands including:

  • Salivary glands
  • Gastric glands in the stomach
  • Secretory cells(islets) in the pancreas  or pancreatic gland
  • Secretory glands in the small intestine

Enzyme that present in human saliva is salivary amylase also called ptyalin, which is capable of breaking down starch into simpler sugars such as maltose that can be further broken down in the small intestine.
