✅First of all, let's know a little about iodine!
✅Iodine is a dietary mineral, which is important to the body for the synthesis of THYROID HORMONES. (Thyroid is nothin but a gland situated in your neck region. It secretes two homornes namely, Thyroxine and Triiodothyronine)
✅So as we know without Iodine, these hormones cannot be made by our body. So, when there is less iodine we get, the disorder, HYPOTHYROIDISM.
Symptoms & Signs:
Hypothyroidism presents with a very important sign called GOITRE. It just means, a kinda swelling of your throat region. Because the gland there, swells up.
Next, an important symptom includes CRETENISM. It is a disease found in young children. It is characterized by, mental retardation (Like the IQ levels of those children will be too less than normal!) They also may have deafness, fatigue and so on!
Treatment:
To supplement their diet with required amount of iodine to reverse the symptoms and help them get better! Also, add to their diet, foods rich in iodine, like marine foods!
