Answer:

Starch - No digestion takes place in stomach

Dextrin - No digestion takes place in stomach

Maltose - No digestion takes place in stomach

Sucrose - No Digestion takes place in stomach

Lactose - No digestion takes place in stomach

Since there is No carbohydrate digesting enzymes in stomach , No Carbohydrate will be digested here

Starch - Digestion takes place in small intestine

70% Starch is converted into Maltose , isomaltose , lactose . dextrins with the help of enzyme PANCREATIC AMYLASE at pH=8

Maltose - Digestion takes place in small intestine

Maltose is converted into Glucose + Glucose with the help of enzyme MALTASE

Dextrin - Digestion takes place in small intestine

Dextrins are converted into glucose with the help of enzyme DEXTRINASE

Lactose - Digestion takes place in small intestine

Lactose are converted into Glucose + Galactose with the help of enzyme LACTASE

Sucrose - Digestion takes place in small intestine

Sucrose is converted into Glucose + Fructose with the help of enzyme SUCRASE .

Carbohydrate: Starch. This is present in two forms – amylose and amylopectin

Enzyme:

  • Pancreatic amylase (produced by pancreas)
  • Glucoamylase (produced by small intestine)

Region of the gut: Small intestine (duodenum)

Product(s):

  • maltose (disaccharides) from amylose
  • dextrins (short-chain polysaccharides) from amylopectin

Carbohydrate: Dextrin

Enzyme: Dextrinase produced by simple columnar cells which line the small intestine.

Region of the gut: Small intestine (duodenum)

Product(s): Oligosaccharides like glucose, fructose, etc.

Carbohydrate: Maltose

Enzyme: Maltase produced by simple columnar cells which line the small intestine.

Region of the gut: Small intestine (duodenum)

Product(s): Glucose

Carbohydrate: Sucrose

Enzyme: Sucrase produced by simple columnar cells which line the small intestine.

Region of the gut: Small intestine (duodenum)

Product(s):

  • Fructose
  • Glucose

Carbohydrate: Lactose

Enzyme: Lactase produced by simple columnar cells which line the small intestine.

Region of the gut: Small intestine (duodenum)

Product(s):

  • Glucose
  • Galactose

Note: Digestion of carbohydrates begins in the mouth aided by 'salivary amylase'

Carbohydrates are not digested in the stomach as the pH is not ideal for the same.

The digestion is continued in the small intestine (the duodenum) where many enzymes are produced as well as those from pancreas are emptied.
