The force of friction depends on

1.  type of the combination of the surfaces which are moving against each other. Rough surfaces will face more friction. Smooth surfaces have less friction. This factor is expressed in terms of coefficient of friction - μ.

2. The normal (reaction) force that is experienced by one object due to the other object. This contact force acts normal to the surface area of contact.  The normal force may be equal to the weight of the object. Or, it may be equal to a resultant of some forces. It is dependent on the mass of the object too.

Force of friction = μ N
in the simplest case : N = mass * g (acceleration due to gravity)

We assume here that g is a constant. So we do not include it as a factor.
