Frictional force is a non conservative force . One of its function is dissipation of energy.

Formula for friction= u*N,

where u is the coefficient of friction and

N is the normal reaction on the pair of surfaces in contact.

Therefore, frictional force is dependent on the following factors:

1) the frictional coefficient, which in turn is dependent on the type is surfaces in contact.

2) the normal reaction

The friction force depends on two factors:-

a) The materials that are in contact. The two materials and the nature of their surfaces.

b) The force pushing the two surfaces together. Pushing the surfaces together causes the more of the asperities to come together and increases the surface area in contact with each other.
