Bakarwals of Jammu and Kashmir reared goats and sheeps.

They lived with their herds in the low hills of shivalik range. In winter when the mountains was covered with snow they move on to the valleys of Kashmir. Several families move together in a kafeela. They crossed the pirpanjal of the mountains and entered the valley. In summer when the snow melts, they returned to the mountains which are now covered with lush green grasslands
