Artificial fiber of plant tissue origin is wood cellulose (rayon, cellulose wadding, alginate fibers, etc.) and synthetically prepared fibers (nylon and terylene) are also frequently used in wound management as surgical dressings.

Answer:

Rayon is a synthetic fiber hence it is produced in such a way that it can be easily used in surgical bandages while cotton is a natural fiber and its properties can not be modified by us. Therefore due to the modification of properties of rayon, surgical bandages are preferably made of rayon but not cotton.
