The first Sultan who visited the shrine of Khwaja Moinuddin was Akbar.

Explanation:

The shrine was made during the reign of Akbar by the emperor himself. In 1562, Akbar first visited the shrine of Khwaja Muinuddin.

  • As he was returning from a hunt, he heard wandering minstrels singing the praise of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti. Then he decided to visit to Ajmer immediately. This is how his annual pilgrimage began.
  • Akbar offered a brass cauldron or a degh, for the cooking of langar. This was ensconced at the entrance in 1568. In 1614, another cauldron was offered by Jahangir.
  • The second cauldron is placed opposite the first cauldron. Presently, both cauldrons are in use.
  • Devotees offer wheat for the gruel and sacks of rice that is cooked here and only vegetarian food is cooked in this dargah.
  • In 1569, Akbar gave orders to build khanqahs and mosques in Ajmer. The Akbari mosque of red sandstone was also built in his reign.
