There are four tiny glands that are located in the neck. These glands are known as a parathyroid gland. The hormone secretes by parathyroid gland is termed as parathyroid hormone or the PTH.

Parathyroid gland regulates the calcium level in the body. PTH or parathyroid hormone is realised by the parathyroid gland when the body calcium level is too low and the glands stop secreting PTH when the level of hormone is raised to the normal level.

Notably, hypocalcaemia is a rare medical condition which is caused by too little or too much discharge of parathyroid hormone or PTH.
