Trypsin is a serine protease enzyme that is present in the digestive system. Its primary function is to hydrolyze the proteins.

Trypsin is first produced in its pro-enzyme form called as Trypsinogen. When the pancreas activates the trypsinogen due to simulation by cholecystokinin, Trypsin is formed in the small intestine.

The enzyme trypsin then moves to the duodenum where it catalyzes the hydrolysis reactions of the peptide bonds. This breaks down the proteins into smaller peptides. These smaller peptide products are hydrolyzed further by the action of proteases into smaller amino acids and make them easily available for absorption into the blood stream.
