The "total area" occupied by forests in Telangana is "27,292 sq. km", which accounts for "24.35%" of the state's forest area. The state has a network of "11 sanctuaries" and "3 national parks". Telangana has 10 districts out of which 3 are tribal districts. The major forest cover lies in the districts of Adilabad, Karimnagar, Khammam and Mahabubnagar. The forests in the state can be classified mainly into four categories - Very dense forests, Moderate dense forests, open forests and scrubs.
