· But, concentrated sulphuric acid is an oxidising agent. So, when copper is heated with conc.H2SO4, a redox reaction occurs and the acid gets reduced to sulphur dioxide. In the Electro chemical series Copper is below Hydrogen. ie., Copper is less positive than HYDROGEN and will not liberate H2 gas when it reats with it.
