Group of animals in which blood is not involved in gaseous exchange:
- Most of the lower animals don’t have a well developed circulatory and respiratory system. This absence leads to further adaptation where the body fluid is not involved in exchange of gases.
- But, the gases directly diffuse into the body cells of the organisms. This is called the cutaneous respiration. In cutaneous respiration the skin of the organism is wet.
- This leads to easy diffusion of gases into and outside the cells. Thus oxygen is absorbed and carbon dioxide is emitted.
