The Deccan Plateaus are located in the State of Kerala. The highest peak in Deccan Plateaus is called the Anamudi, which is a malayam word which literally translates to ''Elephant's Forehead''Anamudi is 2,479 metres high and is the also the highest peak in Western Ghat of India and actually all of South India. Anamudi lies in a National Park with a thriving wild life of Bengal tigers and Asian Elephants and a rare kind of frog located in the region

Anamudi mountain is the highest peak of the Western Ghats as well as Deccan plateau. It is geographically located in the Indian state of Kerala. At an elevation of 2,695 metres (8,842 ft) and with a topographic prominence of 2,479 metres (8,133 ft), it does proves right the literal meaning of its name Anamudi i.e."elephant's forehead".

General Douglas Hamilton of the Madras Army on May 4, 1862 made the first recorded ascent on this peak but it is also very much likely that the locals had earlier scaled it.

This is a Fault-Block mountain located in the southern region of Eravikulam National Park. It is also at the junction of the Cardamom Hills, the Anaimalai Hills and the Palani Hills. Munnar is only 13 kilometres from this peak.
