Methyl orange is an indicator which will turn to yellow color in the presence of basic solution.

  • Methyl orange is popularly used in titration to check the pH.
  • Although its color scheme is not as diverse as the universal indicator, its endpoint is sharp which makes it an excellent choice for titration.
  • If the solution is acidic it shows the red color and if the solution is basic it shows yellow color.
  • Below 3.1 pH it shows the red color and above 4.4 it turns yellow.
