The indicator which is used to color the mitochondria in an onion cell is called Safranin.
Safranin is a reddish-pink color stain which is used during making of an onion peel slide. The onion cells are colorless and by using safranin, it turns red or pink in color which makes it easy for us to visualize the cell and its content under microscope.
