Of course! The Ammeter tells the magnitude of current in Amperes, since it is the SI Unit of Current.

However, ammeter cannot measure small current(very minute), in such cases we use another device called Galvanometer, which not only tells the magnitude of minute currents but also tells its direction by deflecting its needle towards the direction of current.
