During the Triassic period 200 million years ago, the land mass that had been Pangaea was divided into two major land masses, Laurasia and Gondwanaland. The name Pangaea, or Pangea, borrows from Greek, meaning "all earth".

Gondwana was an ancient supercontinent that broke up about 180 million years ago. The continent eventually split into landmasses we know them as Africa, South America, Australia, Antarctica, the Indian subcontinent and the Arabian Peninsula.
