Sieve tubes are the sieve cells which are connected end to end with perforated walls. They help in the translocation of food. Companion cells are the specialized parenchyma cells which are found associated with the sieve tube elements of phloem. They help in the development and function of a sieve-tube element.
In vascular plants, phloem is the living tissue that transports the soluble organic compounds made during photosynthesis (known as photosynthate), in particular the sugar sucrose, to parts of the plant where needed. This transport process is called translocation.
