The main component in plant cell walls is a compound known as cellulose.
The cellulose is a structural compound, mainly carbohydrate, that is largely responsible for structure of the plant cells. Aside from giving the cells structure, the cellulose also give the cell wall a protective nature -acting as a barrier to external factors.
