The main seasons of India

Explanation:

The four main seasons of India are winter (December to March), summer (April to June), monsoon (July to September) and post monsoon or autumn (October and November).

1. Winter season-The cold weather season begins from mid- November in northern India and stays till February.  December and January are considered to be the coldest months.  The temperature decreases from south to the north. Days are warm and nights are cold.   Frost is a common feature in the north and the higher slopes of Himalayas experience snowfall.   As the northeast trade winds blow from land to sea hence, for most part of the country, it is a dry season.   The weather is  marked by clear sky, low temperatures and low humidity

2. Summer season-The hot weather season of the Indian subcontinent lasts from March and extends till the middle of June. It is caused by the shifting of the sun northward. Temperature rises and air pressure falls during this time. The northern plains and Rajasthan desert become extremely hot during this time. Local hot winds called loo blow during this time. Dust storms also occur in certain parts of northern India. Pre-monsoon showers occur towards the end of this season.

3. Monsoon season-. They cause bulk of rainfall from south west monsoon, as these winds blow over warm oceans , they carry abundant moisture with them and causes rainfall in the sub continent. July to September is the period associated with advancing monsoon.  Advancing monsoon is associated with the breaks in monsoon due to temperature variation and pressure gradient.

4. Post monsoon or autumn-Autumn season is the season between summer and winter. It is marked by the shedding of leaves by trees and harvesting of the kharif crop.
