Name the main vegetation types.Give a brief answer
Answers
The different kinds of natural vegetation found in India are as follows: (i) Tropical Evergreen Forests (ii) Tropical Deciduous Forests (iii) Tropical Thorn Forests and Scrubs (iv) Montane Forests (v) Mangrove Forests Montane forests are found in regions of high altitude. Vegetation in high altitude areas above 3600 metres above sea level adapt to the low temperatures and precipitation levels. Coniferous trees like junipers, silver fir, pines and birches are found here. Lichens and moss are also part of the vegetation at higher altitudes. Alpine grasslands are pasture for grazing for tribes like Gujjars and Bakharwals in the mountainous regions.
The main types of vegetation
Explanation:
Major Types of Vegetation
Tropical evergreen forest,
Tropical deciduous forest,
Thorny bushes,
Mountain vegetation and
Mangrove forests.
Tropical evergreen forest- These forests are restricted to heavy rainfall areas. They are at their best in areas having more than 200 cm of rainfall with a short dry season. The trees reach great heights up to 60 metres or even above. Since the region is warm and wet throughout the year, it has a luxuriant vegetation of all kinds trees, shrubs, and creepers giving it a multilayered structure.
Tropical deciduous forest-Deciduous forests occur in areas of moderate temperature and rainfall with cold winters. Species belonging to these forests drop leaves in autumn. The tropical monsoon deciduous forests are found in areas receiving annual rainfall of 100 to 200 cms in India, with a distinct dry and rainy seasons and a small range of temperature.
Thorny bushes-Thorny bushes are modifications of plants that are designed to sustain the dryness and lack of precipitation in the deserts. The closed leaves or the thorns do not open up for open transpiration. this stops the moisture from the plants from escaping into the atmosphere.
Mountain vegetation - In mountainous region the change in vegetation is impacted by temperature variation. Decrease in temperature with increasing altitude impacts the nature of vegetation. There are number of alpine plants/vegetation at higher altitudes in the Himalayan region that are used for medicinal purposes.
Mangrove forests-Mangrove forests are the most important vegetation found in the areas of tide influenced coats these forests have accumulated mud and silt. The roots of mangroves are developed to be exposed to air as the marshy swamps restrict the intake of oxygen.
Mangrove forests have varieties of the plants submerged under water these forests help both in pollination and in seed dispersal and they are thick and dense.
