temperature. So to an observer it might be identified as solid, liquid

Under the right conditions, all of them. All materials have a melting point and a boiling point. At the correct temperature you can find any given metal in any of the three (ignoring plasma) states of matter. That said it is unlikely to see that in nature as the temperatures some metals need is rediculoisly high and at that level of energy the metal will be highly reactive.
