The most common method of ingestion in Amoeba is PHAGOCYTOSIS.
Amoeba is an aquatic protozoa. The Amoeba moves slowly in a watery environment by extending its cell membrane and cytoplasm. This extension is called pseudopodium or false foot. Phytoplankton and zooplankton are the food of the amoeba.
Whenever an Amoeba comes in contact with a food particle it produces 2 pseudopodia which Surround the food particle. The food particle is engulfed inside the Amoeba cell making a food vacuole. This process of engulfing food particle is called phagocytosis.
Lysosomes of the cell secretes digestive enzymes to digest the food. Digested food is absorbed and assimilated by the cell. Undigested part of the food in the released out of the body by contractile vacuoles.
