There are two types of muscles present in the iris:

- Radial dilatory muscles

- Circular sphincter muscle

Radial dilatory muscles are outer un-striated muscles. When these muscles constructed, the diameter of the pupil increases at that time and it happens at night time.

On the other hand, circular sphincter muscles are present in the inner side of iris. When these muscles contract during high intensity of light, the iris expands and the diameter of pupil is decreased.
