That's quite an interesting question.
The answer of you question is "mekedatu dam project" this is the project Karnataka government has recently approved . The total cost on this project 5912 crore rupees which was approved by the government .The purpose is to save water not only to generate the electricity but for drinking purpose too. This project initially faced many difficulties as the Tamil Nadu opposed the construction of this dam as well as the project.

The correct answer is – Mekedatu Dam.

Mekedatu is a place in the Kanakapura taluk of Karnataka state. The place lies along the river Kaveri.

Mekedatu is almost 110 km from Bengaluru and here the river Kaveri runs through a narrow and deep ravine of granite rock.

Karnataka had intended to build a reservoir across the river Kavery near Mekedatu in Kanakapura in order to supply potable water to Bengaluru city and some parts of Mysuru.

After a lot of disputes between the states of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka over the Kaveri river flow, the Mekedatu dam project which was proposed along with Shivanasamudra hydro power project at Shimsa in 2003, it was finally decided to go ahead.

The Mekedatu Multipurpose project came at a cost of 5,912 crore rupees with a capacity of about 66 tmc ft.
