The newspaper “Samachar Chandrika” was started by Bhabani Charan Bandopadhyay which was commissioned by the Hindu Orthodoxy to oppose the opinions and ideas reflected by Raja Ram Mohan Roy.

Raja Ram Mohan Roy started the newspaper “Sambad Kaumudi” at the beginning of the nineteenth century which was published in Bhabani Charan Chattopadhyay’s name.

But later it so happened that the latter started having conflicts with the former’s ideas and thinking and soon parted ways to start his own newspaper named as Samachar Chandrika, opposing Raja Ram  Mohan Roy’s principles.
