In the periodic table of elements, there are seven horizontal rows of elements called periods. The vertical columns of elements are called groups, or families. There are 7 periods and 18 groups of elements in chemistry

If this question comes intially then it can confuse many of them as here one thing is asked from different ways.

Groups or columns (vertical) are same things in periodic table as 18 in no. but oppt. of this, rows or periods (horizontal) are there in the periodic table which are 7 in number.
