Alluvial soil is one of the most fertile soils of India and it is rich in Potash, lime, phosphoric acid. The formation of alluvial soil is mainly due to the deposition of silts, clay, sediments brought down by the Himalayan rivers.

This type of soil is mostly found in the northern plain of India and covers up 40% of the total land of the country. Cultivation of crops like, Wheat, maize, rice, sugarcane are very favorable in this soil.
