There are several devices awaiting patent approval in the United States, Europe and other countries, which convert optical radiation to electrical energy.

One such device is the HPC or the Holographic Planar Concentrator (US Patent no. US5877874A). The device collects, concentrates and converts optical radiation to electrical energy. It claims to be an efficient and cheap method of electricity production.

The optoelectronic device which converts optical radiation into electricity is PN junction diode.

The key feature of a PN diode is that it allows electricity to be transmitted in a unidirectional manner.

These kinds of diodes are used in clipping as well as clamping circuits for restoration of Direct Current.

They are also used in computers, voltage multipliers and such other circuits and devices.
