oxidising means addition of oxygen
reducing means removal of oxygen
in the equation ZNO +C=ZN+CO
ZNO loses oxygen so it is reduction and C gains oxygen so it is oxidation

Oxidizing agent-ZnO

Oxidized-C

Reduced- ZnO
