OXOACIDS-. Examples of oxoacids are HOCI , HOCIO, HOCIO2 , HOCIO3 thus formed by chlorine. Bromine forms HOBr, HOBrO2, HOBrO3 in this mostly X= O bond is present.

Chlorine generally form four types of oxoacids. And the name is HOCI ( hypochlorous acid ). HOCIO ( chlorous acid ) , HOCIO2 ( chloric acid ) and the last one is ( perchloric acid ) HOCIO3.

While bromine also forms oxoacids and the name is HOBr ( hypobromous acid ) , HOBrO2 ( bromic acid ), HOBrO3 ( per bromic acid ).

We explain it why the strength oxoacids varies down the group. So we can consider the series of hypohalous acid and the example are HCIO, HBrO , HIO as we know that the strength of the acid is determined by the central atom's electronegativly relative to the central atom in the molecule.

Because as we know that in halogen series chlorine is the most electronegative atom.

So the HOCI Molecule draw toward itself . And the H and Cl are lies on the opposite end of the molecule , Cl push towards the electron in the H- O bond, due to this they weakening it.

As the weaker the bond , so the more easily H* can ionize in water. So it decrease their strength. HCIO>HBrO>HIO.

Now we can look about the strength of oxoacids changes in the oxidation state of halogens.

We can take the series of chlorine oxoacids. HOCI, HOCIO ,HOCIO2, HOCIO3 as we can understand by the example in this no. Of oxygen atom is increasing. The oxygen is the most electronegative molecule.

The more oxygen atom present., Highly election density pulls off the the O - H bond, thus it weakening it and it makes a stronger acid.

So the order of strength is in decreasing order: HOCIO3>HOCIO2>HOCIO>HOCI
