Required Answer:-

The gastric glands present on the wall of the stomach contains many cells which releases hydrochloric acid, a protein digestive enzyme known as pepsin and mucous.

Hydrochloric acid:

  • Secreted by the Oxyntic cells or the Pareital cells of gastric glands.
  • Also releases CIF (Castral Intrinsic factor) which is responsible to absorb Vitamin K.

Pepsin:

  • Pepsin remains as a inactive enzyme known as Pepsinogen.
  • The inactive enzymes are stored inside the Zymogen/Peptic cells.
  • Along with Pepsinogen, Other enzymes includes Prorennin, Gastric amlyase and Gastric lipase.

Mucous:

  • Secreted by a specialised cell known as goblet cells.
  • Mucous helps in protecting the stomach layer from hazardous acidic medium created by HCl.
