The urine is carried by the collecting duct into an empty space in the kidney called the pelvis. From there it is passed into the ureters which in turn carry the urine into the urinary bladder. It is stored there for sometime and ultimately passed out of the body through the urethra and the urinary opening.

The ureter is always filled with liquid. No chance urine can flow backward. It is full can't fit anymore in there. Also, back-flow of urine is prevented by pressure exerted by the nephron column. It is also prevented by the use ofATPas an active transport mechanism. Hormones, such as rennin and epinephrine constricts the back-flow path. There are valves present in ureters called as ureterovesical valves which prevent the backflow of urine.

Kidneys – Ureters – urinary bladder- urethra to the outside. Urine is prevented from flowing back into the ureters because the terminal part of each ureter passes obliquely through the bladder wall and so become close due to compression by the contracting bladder muscles.
