Light is essential for the ability to see objects. In our daily lives we are able to see every object around us due to light.
However, it is the phenomenon of reflection of light which is actually responsible for the visualisation of object. light from the Sun or any other light source falls on a particular object and is reflected back to our eyes, in turn producing the sensation of sight.

The phenomenon that enables us to see the object around us is the reflection of light.
- When light is reflected from an object we can see the object through which light is reflected.
- We can see the colour due to reflected light and not due to absorbing light.
- So, if the object absorbs violet colour then we see contrasting colour which is yellow colour.
- The object that can transmit whole light falling on it is known as a transparent object while the object which does not allow to transmit light is known as an opaque object.
- Translucent objects allow some of the light falling on them to transmit.
