Colour in tomato and brinjal is due to the presence of pigments found in the plastids and not plastids themselves. Tomato is red in colour due to the presence of lycopene pigment found in the chromoplasts. Brinjal is purple in colourdue to the presence of anthocyanin pigment on the chromoplast
