Acceleration due to gravity 'g' decreases with increase in depth below the surface of the earth.

Acceleration due to gravity (g) is:

(i) Maximum at poles

(ii) Minimum at equator

(iii) zero at centre of earth

The positions on the surface of the Earth are

Maximum at the Poles

According to the formula of the acceleration due to the gravity due to rotation of Earth, we get,

g₍ω₎ = g - ω²R Cos² λ

For the poles λ = 90°

So, g (at pole) = g, which is maximum.

Minimum at the Equator

By applying the formula, we get,

g₍ω₎ = g - ω²R Cos² λ

For the equator λ = 0°

So, g (at equator) = g - ω²R , which is minimum.
